Pawlenty stays away from gambling, reserves in budget fix - 2004-03-04
Gov. Tim Pawlenty reported Thursday he won't call for added casino gambling development or use funds from a state reserve account to balance the state budget.

Pawlenty's administration has been holding private conversations with American Indian tribal officials that could lead to renegotation of gambling compacts. The tribes have a virtual monopoly regarding casino gambling for 15 years and the state sees little profits.

Panel to voice their opinion on casinos next week - 2004-03-04
Legislation to make casino gambling legal in Kentucky is likely to go to the House next week.
After an informational hearing yesterday, Rep. Denver Butler, D-Louis-ville, stated gambling will come up for a vote Wednesday in the House Licensing & Occupations Committee.

Clark has offered a constitutional amendment to permit casino gambling at nine sites around the state -- five at racetracks and four elsewhere. The state calculates the casinos could garner $1.25 billion a year in revenue when mature, with the state receiving 35 percent of that.
