Vegas minus the acid - 2004-03-05
I was somewhere near Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs started to take effect. However, this being some 30 years after the publication of Hunter S Thompson's gonzo classic, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, I had, in reliving Thompson's semi-fictional journey, chosen markedly less psychotropic drugs.
Wandering through the casino floor, I thought what thousands prior to myself must have concluded. That this city is simultaneously monstrous, thrilling, frightening, wonderful and repulsive, and that you ought to be very well adjusted to come here and survive minus material or psychological damage.
