Measures become defunct on Senate floor - 2004-03-06
Measures regarding mad cow disease and a bill permitting cities to put new limitations on where mini-casinos are situated were among the casualties of the last major cutoff before the Legislature's planned Thursday adjournment.

A few bills will remain in existence if they are required to implement the budget. But the rest, unless they benefit from unique exceptions, are done for -- including a few bills regarding the discovery of mad cow disease in Washington and the mini-casino bill.

Progression made on Zia Park Racetrack - 2004-03-06
The building of the Zia Park Racetrack and Casino is at the starting gates.
Ray Battaglini, president of the Hobbs Chamber of Commerce, stated the $55 million racetrack and casino project will establish roughly 250 permanent full-time jobs in restaurants and other racetrack-related venues. It should also generate roughly the same number of part-time jobs througout the three-month racing season, he stated.

The casino will be established first, followed by the racetrack and then a hotel, officials reported.
