Casino Measure Moves Forward - 2004-03-06
The St. Regis Mohawks are one move closer to authorizing their northern New York casino. A new proposal for the state Legislature to approve the tribe's reservation-based casino in Franklin County is making its way through the Senate and Assembly, and could be voted on by next week, officials reported.

Since last summer, the tribe has been confronted with the possibility of having to close the casino's most profitable games, such as blackjack, roulette and several of their slot-like video gaming machines.

Casinos' Slot Ringing Less Within the State - 2004-03-06
Slot machines at 11 casinos within New Mexico jingled a little less in the last quarter of 2003, the first time in years such betting has tappered. Still, New Mexico gaming was no small change.

For New Mexico coffers, that means almost $8.8 million in profit sharing paid into the state general fund for the quarter. That still exceeds the $8.4 million average Indian casinos paid to the state in each of the previous three quarters in 2003. Casino officials don't see the clip in the ka-ching as a sign the gaming trade is faltering.
