Tribal official refutes any sign of conflict of interest - 2004-03-06
With two federal agencies investigating alleged conflicts of interest by Bureau of Indian Affairs regional officials, the chair of the Ione Band of Miwok Indians is refuting claims of favorable treatment from BIA officials who stood to benefit from their own actions and association in the tribe.
As a result of BIA actions, Dutschke was included into the tribe's membership in addition to 68 relatives, including an uncle and a niece who also work for the BIA. The tribe now is looking to construct a $100 million casino in Plymouth, gateway to one of California's growing wine regions.
