Campbell made heavy impact on Indian affairs - 2004-03-07
Locally, Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell is known as a rancher, biker and creator of American Indian jewelry. But nationally, Campbell has been a top speaker for American Indians, veterans and the U.S. Olympic Committee.

But Campbell hasn't always like his status as the Senate's sole American Indian. In January, for instance, he stated he had been singled out, due to his heritage, in the controversy over a possible Indian casino close to Denver that Campbell opposes.

Tribe considers Madera for casino site - 2004-03-07
The North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians is joining forces with a Las Vegas gaming company to introduce another casino-resort to Madera County within the next three years.
That would mean another big casino joining an growing crowded market in the San Joaquin Valley, with seven casinos between Porterville and Sonora and another proposed two weeks ago for close to Auberry.

The 200,000-square-foot facility in Madera County would include 2,000 slot machines, bingo, table games, a hotel, several restaurants, as well as conference and meeting rooms.
