The fire was still a blaze that December morning in 1993 when Bryan Krantz strode into the horsemen's cafeteria and climbed atop a pool table.
It exploded in 1971 when state officials learned one of Masoni's partners in the track was Emprise Corp., a Buffalo-based company that had been convicted of hiding mob ownership in a Las Vegas casino.
A lawyer, Roussel also agreed to represent the Jockey's Guild in the video poker lawsuit against the Fair Grounds and, as part of those discussions, inquired about purchasing the legal judgment from the horsemen.
