Onorato request $50 million from state - 2004-03-08
Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato is looking for over $50 million from the state to lessen debt at Pittsburgh International Airport, complete the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and assist in financing a "headquarters" hotel for conventioneers.

One suggestion by Rep. Mike Veon, D-Beaver Falls, is to use part of the tax revenue that would derive from a new slot machine casino in the Pittsburgh region. That concept hinges on whether the Legislature authorizes Gov. Ed Rendell's plan to establish slots parlors within the state.

Wisconsin tribe authorizes land sale for proposed casino - 2004-03-08
An American Indian tribe has authorized the sale of a parcel of land where it wants to construct an off-reservation casino.
The Lac du Flambeau band of Lake Superior Chippewa wants to build an $80 million casino, hotel and convention center on the 93 acres of property just west of Shullsburg in southwestern Wisconsin.

The Lac du Flambeau has had an option on property proprietor Jim Paquette's land since 2000. Last April, Shullsburg locals voted in favor of the casino proposal.
