Harrah's, Horseshoe casino staff to stay put - 2004-03-09
The new proprietors of Harrah's and Horseshoe casinos stated Tuesday they intend to maintain the same general managers, workers and winning plan that makes them the top two casino properties in the area.

Harrah's General Manager Thomas Roberts will depart from the company to join Boyd Gaming, which is purchasing Harrah's for $190 million, and continue as general manager there when that agreement is finalized.

Saloon smoking prohibition postponement defeated - 2004-03-09
An effort to overturn the April 1 smoking prohibition in bars failed Tuesday in the state Legislature's General Law Committee by a 12-7 vote.

A prohibition on smoking in restaurants went into effect in October. Bars with either a cafe or tavern license must implement the smoking prohibition April 1. Private establishments, like Veterans of Foreign Wars, Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun are excluded.
